Home made Tomato Chutney

Tomato Chutney is a very delicious side in south indian cooking and can be very versatile in many of the fusion recipe.It goes well with, well whatever u name it,it goes well..and is very easy to make at home..

Preparation time : 10 mins

Yeild : 6 People

Ingredients :


1 Can Diced tomatoes with juice
1 medium onion ( Red or White)
2 tsp oil
1 tsp tamarind
2 tsp Urad Dhal
2 tsp Channa dhal
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
4 Green chillies
A pinch of Asafoetida
1 tbsp salt

Tempering:

1 tsp oil
1 tsp urad dhal
a few sprigs of curry leaves.

Method :

In a medium sauce pan, heat a little oil,add in the Channa dhal and urad dhal in that order and fry for a min,add in the chopped onions and green chillies. After the onions turn transparent, add in the canned tomatoes with turmeric powder ,tamarind and asafoetida. Simmer it for 5mins till all the water has evaporated.Switch off the stove and allow it to cool completely before blending into a smooth paste. In a separate small pan ,add a little oil,saute some mustard seeds ,urad dhal and curry leaves and pour the tempering over the chutney and Serve..
