Broccoli Dal


hi friends,
Its been a really long time since i blogged.Tried some interesting new dishes lately,so i thought i could post it..I was searching for some new Dal's to make and came across cabbage Dal in one of the blogs,it gave me an idea,i tried making it even more healthy by making Broccoli Dal.Broccoli as everyone knows is rich in vitamins,iron and fiber.So this dish turns out to be a very healthy and tasty side dish, which vanished in minutes.But i saved some for the blog pic,so here goes the recipe..

Level: Easy

Preparation time : 20 mins

Yield : 4 People

Ingredients :

1 lb frozen Broccoli florets
1/2 cup chopped tomatoes
1/2 cup Toor Dhal
1/4 cup Masoor Dhal
1-2 tsp sambar powder

For Tempering:

1 tbsp Ghee/butter
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp fennel seeds
1 tsp chopped garlic (optional)
1 tsp grated ginger
1 pinch Asafoetida/hing
1 tsp chilli powder
1 tsp turmeric
1 handful cilantro choppedSalt to taste.

Method:

Pressure cook both toor dhal and masoor dhal with a little turmeric powder,allow it to cool,mash it with a spoon and keep aside.Sautee all the ingredients for tempering one by one adding the garlic at the very end.Add chopped tomato, salt to taste,red chilli powder,rest of the turmeric powder and add the broccoli (no need to thaw) to the pan.Sprinkle a little bit of water now and then and cook till the broccoli florets are soft and fully cooked.Now add the mashed up Dal mixture along with a little more water and check for a semi-thick consistency. Now add 1 tsp sambar powder according to taste or a little bit more.cook for a min , switch off the heat and add the chopped cilantro and serve hot with Basmati rice or Roti.
